Define Desires

The Case of the Borrowed Life

I used to think I had a discipline problem.

Really, I just had bad taste in goals.

Nothing criminal. Just goals that looked great on paper.

Clean. Impressive. Slightly borrowed.

I said I wanted clarity, success, balance.

But deep down, I wanted snacks and a nap.

And maybe… to not feel like I was always auditioning for something.

So I sat down.

Not to plan. Just to get honest.

I wrote one sentence:

“The kind of life I want right now looks like…”

And then I told the truth. Slowly. Scribbled like a secret.

It didn’t sound strategic.

But it sounded like me.

The Argument

You don’t need willpower when you want the right things.

The cravings quiet down. The noise gets bored.

Because once desire shows up—real desire, not the algorithm’s suggestion—your distractions feel a little silly.

The Tool

Whenever I find myself scrolling, snacking, or faking urgency:

  1. Open a blank page.
  2. Write: “The kind of life I want right now looks like…”
  3. Finish the sentence. Slowly. Honestly.
  4. Circle the part that makes you flinch. That’s the direction.

Do it monthly. Or right after a meeting that made your soul sigh.
