Prompt Crafting
The Case of the Blank Ask
Garbage in, glitch out.
You didn't get a bad response.
You asked a lazy question.
Prompting isn't magic.
It's precision.
It's thinking clearly—on purpose—before you type.
Most prompts fail because they assume too much.
No task. No context. No structure.
Then you blame the tool.
So now?
I treat each ask like an asset.
I build it properly.
Like I'm talking to someone smart—who just can't read my mind.
The Argument
You thought AI would think for you.
It won't.
It only sorts your thoughts—if you ask well.
The Tool
A great prompt has up to six layers:
- Task
– What do I want it to do? (non-negotiable)
- Context
– Why am I doing this? For whom? For where?
- Exemplars
– Show what good looks like
- Persona
– Who's answering? A strategist? A skeptic? A friend?
- Format
– Paragraph? Table? Code?
- Tone – Formal, sharp, casual, poetic?
Complex task? Break it into steps.
Run small tests.
Refine as you go.
AI isn't supposed to read your mind.
It's supposed to sharpen it.
