Fear Setting

The Case of the Vague Threat

You're not afraid of the risk.

You’re afraid of seeing it clearly.

So you delay.

You overthink.

You say "let me revisit this next week," knowing full well you won't.

Fear wins by staying vague.

It grows in the dark.

It steals your time by posing as strategy.

So now?

I write it down.

Worst-case. Full detail.

Not to scare myself—

to disarm it.

The Argument

You thought fear meant pause.

It doesn't.

It means: plan better—or stay stuck.

The Tool

Every quarter, I ask three things:

  1. What's the worst that could happen?
  2. How likely is it?
  3. How would I prevent or fix it?

If the answers are honest, the fear shrinks.

If they're not, I stay exactly where I am—convincing myself I’m being responsible.
