How did we get here again?
You’ve answered messages. Replied to things that didn’t need replying.
You’ve arranged the day so neatly you almost forgot to live it.
And the thing that actually matters?
Still untouched.
Still sitting there in your head—half-ignored, fully alive.
You glance at it. Then at your inbox. Then back again.
Like eye contact might make it real.
It’s not urgency that owns you.
It’s indecision.
So now?
You name the one thing.
The real one.
The one that makes you wince a little, because it matters more than the rest.
And then you give it your attention like it’s sacred.
Because in a day filled with noise,
it is.
The Argument
You thought overwhelm meant too much to do.
It didn’t.
It meant not choosing.
You thought you could juggle. That multitasking was proof of mastery.
But it was just hiding—disguised as busyness.
Focus isn’t a feeling.
It’s a decision.
And most days, it's the hardest one you'll make.
The Tool
What I do now:
- I name what truly matters today—the thing that stings slightly when I admit I’ve been dodging it.
- I write it down. On a post-it. And stick it on my screen.
- If you don’t like paper, use a widget.
- One line. No scroll. Just that.
- Then I do it. Before I explain it. Before I check anything else.
That’s the Highlight.
Not because it’s flashy.
But because it’s the thread that, when pulled, unknots the rest of the day.
